Restylane is a clear gel plant extract containing hyaluronic acid that is used to fill facial wrinkles, scars and enhance lips. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally occurring in our body that traps water in the skin. As we age the skin produces less of the acid along with diminished production of collagen and elastin. This results in loss of volume, sagging skin and wrinkles. Restylane can help to temporarily diminish appearance of wrinkles by replenishing the lost volume.

How the procedure is performed?
Restylane is injected using a fine needle. It is injected directly under the wrinkle or scar. In case of lips, lips and immediate lip area are injected.  Topical or local anesthetic can be used to numb the area.  The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes and does not require any recovery time.  Mild stinging is common but usually well tolerated.  Redness and mild swelling, if any, can usually disappears in 24 hours. Makeup can be applied immediately after the procedure.

How long the Restylane lasts?
Once injected, Restylane integrates within the skin and attracts water. The results are immediate. With time the filler is reabsorbed without a trace.  Depending on an individual the results may last from 6-8 months.  Further injections or additions of the product can be performed at any time without additional risk.

What are possible side effects of the Restylane injections?
Side effects may include bruising, redness and pain at the injection site. Swelling that lasts up two few days may occur after injection of Restylane into the lips. Since Restylane contains naturally occurring skin substance, hypersensitivity to the product is rare.
